The Art of Note Taking

The art of note taking is at the heart of academic writing. Perhaps, that sounded too poetic but its true! The link between the two is not always seen or appreciated and therefore it is often neglected. Note taking is required in serveral instances like when attending lectures or seminars, when reading jounals or books to gather information ornwhen preparing reports, etc. Think about it, if you were able to take 'good' notes whilst the lecturer is presenting his/her ideas, your essay will reflect the ideas gathered in class.

Having said all of this, I do understand that it can be challenging to make good notes that can be used in your essays but 'practice makes perfect'. It is also important to bear in mind that there are nuances between note taking whilst in class and note taking whilst reading. Interestingly, you will find that you are better at one than the other, or that both may not be your strongest points. This is where EWH comes in. You will find resources on this website to help you learn to take notes. Mastering note taking both in class and while readings makes all the difference in grades!
